Fifth File. [post-Zombiefield]

[ phone ]

Right, so - are we all situated, Mayfield? No more infestations from the undead, or very pointedly, certain idiots who let us take care of their problems? Good, very good.

Now, as I'm to understand - Miss Mokou, Mr. Minch and Mr. Yosuke all had requests for things to be built and/or repaired. If anyone else is in need of my expertise with building or simply taking things apart, then don't be afraid to put a request in. I'd rather be busy instead of bored, after all. I hear it holds off the madness that's rather infectious here. My talents don't stop at just mechanics, either. Name a subject and I'd be able to offer my services - but, please, do be reasonable and not say something impossible, like traveling dimensions or some such. If you do so, I'll simply ignore your call.

[ now filtered to her friends/acquaintances ]

As for another issue, is everyone settling in all right after that? I can help as far as medical is concerned or just to check up on you.

For those who helped me, I'll do what I can to express my gratitude. I'll start off with saying thank you. It [...] meant a lot.

[ action | around 913 Bilko Boulevard ]

[ Luckily, the garage is just as acceptable to work in and by now, she's done work on making the materials usuable. Her first invention will be something small, just to test out what she has to work with here in Mayfield. She's not expecting perfection, certainly, but the challenge is still there. And, you bet she's going to take up on the offer.

On the radio, the station's set to a classical one. Occasionally, she's humming along to the music while she's working. Want to see just what has her busy? ]

[ action | Mayfield High ]

[ Not one to observe her working on mechanical objects? Then you must be one of her teachers or her classmates! She's dressed normally with her notebooks in tow and then some, but she also looks tired. Being in an underground location for three days while warding off zombies didn't serve as appropriate sleeping conditions. She may be putting her head down for a bit, dozing off, but she snaps out of it and forces herself to wake up. At least at this point, she'll be able to regain those bags underneath her eyes.

Maybe she could sleep for a period in the nurse's office. Surely they wouldn't mind, right?

But, she is making sure to try to pay attention in class - even if she already knows the material necessary. ]

[ action | Mayfield's Drive-In ]

[ Diana's just walking around Mayfield until her supposed boss sees her around the drive-in theater. She stops to turn to face him, standing prim and proper. ]

May I help you, sir?

YOU'RE LATE! Honestly, you're lucky I kept you after all the slacking off you've done! Get in there and start selling damn tickets! In my day, if you even missed one day of work--

Excuse me, sir, but I never recall ever applying for a job here. May I see the paperwork necessary to either confirm or deny this accusation you've made against me?

Fine, but this is the last time! Also, just face it, kid - you're never gonna be a businesswoman, so I'd drop the formal tone and all that other crap.

... Pardon me, but that was incredibly rude of you to say. If I want to be a businesswoman, then I certainly have the talent for it. How dare that you insinuate otherwise is simply discouraging. After all, I'm young and what you're exhibiting could very well be enough of an impression for me to be just like you. And, we don't want that now, do we?

Tch, kids these days. Here's your damn paperwork.

[ Diana reads through it not once, not twice, not even three times - but as many times as she can. She makes sure to scan for the fine print in the document. She does this for several minutes, trying to not gloss over any important details.

Though, when she sees her signature, she grumbles a bit before handing her folder over to her "boss" and sighs. ]

Hn. Very well. Do I have a uniform?

Yeah. Now go get it and start selling tickets and concessions. They just don't make themselves, you know!

Fine, fine.

[ Now that she's dressed in the horrendous uniform, she trudges up to the ticket counter to start selling tickets. Inwardly, she's smacking her head into the still up "ACCESS RESTRICTED" sign to her library. But, outwardly, she's being the "perfect little ticket girl" that she can be, faking her smiles and cheer rather well. ]

[ Diana has noticed the popcorn raining down, knowing that it's rather preposterous for popcorn to suddenly rain down from the sky - Mayfield's physics be damned. She goes outside to investigate it and then looks up at the boy on the roof with mild amusement. ]

Are you giving the patrons a pre-show before their movie starts, sir?

[identity profile] strike-you-out.livejournal.com 2011-10-05 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Slugger has a fistful of popcorn ready to launch at the ticket-girl until she addresses him. She isn't scolding or trying to run him off yet so he concludes that she isn't a drone. Instead of throwing the popcorn, he crunches on some instead before answering in a quiet, playful voice.]

You could say that.

[identity profile] notalwystrthful.livejournal.com 2011-10-05 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
[ Actually, she's going to just talk with you because this is at least entertainment of some kind. She smirks a little and lets a chuckle come out. ]

Need a refill?

[identity profile] strike-you-out.livejournal.com 2011-10-06 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Refill? He raises a box of Milk Duds to his ear and gives it a rattle. One left. That is, until he dumps that last one into his mouth, grinning.]

I do, now.

[identity profile] notalwystrthful.livejournal.com 2011-10-06 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Come down from there and I'll do just that. It'll be on the house.

[ It's mostly because she doesn't find too much amusement in Mayfield, other than in small spurts, so this is just what she needs to keep herself from getting too bored. ]

[identity profile] strike-you-out.livejournal.com 2011-10-06 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[The boy on the roof briefly fades into shadow before vanishing altogether. Suddenly, he's standing directly in front of her holding the popcorn and empty box. Up close, he isn't any less creepy but the promise of more candy seems to resonate with him the same way it would in the vast majority of children.]

Does it come with a Coke?

[identity profile] notalwystrthful.livejournal.com 2011-10-06 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
[ Diana blinks when he's gone, but she notices him standing in front of her a moment after. She shakes her head for a moment to recover from it and nods to him. ]

Of course.

What might your name be, sir?

[identity profile] strike-you-out.livejournal.com 2011-10-06 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
[His grin fades. While he loves the idea of gifted snacks, he would have preferred a more startled expression. He'll answer, somewhat deflated.]

Slugger... You weren't scared?

[identity profile] notalwystrthful.livejournal.com 2011-10-06 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ Diana gives him a slight stare of confusion and also contemplation. Was he truly expecting her to be frightened? Well, then... ]

Not very many things scare me, Mr. Slugger.

[identity profile] strike-you-out.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Huff. She sounds just like Susan right now. Shoulders drooping, Slugger seems to pout for a passing moment before his lips curve back into a grin. Perhaps he should pop up at some random moment when she's least expecting it. Yeah, that might get a reaction out of her.

These thoughts go unspoken, though one could easily surmise that he has something mischievous in mind.]

What does scare you?

[identity profile] notalwystrthful.livejournal.com 2011-10-12 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
[ Diana takes note of Slugger's movements, considering him for just a bit. While he managed to get her at least amused in this part of Mayfield, she's still very wary and very cautious.

She does think he has something planned - hopefully not against her, but if the time comes, she'll do what she can to deal with it. ]

Not a lot. I always plan for the unexpected to happen.

[identity profile] strike-you-out.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Always? The unexpected happens often to you?

[He moves toward the counter where the candy is and exchanges his empty milk-duds box for a full one.]

[identity profile] notalwystrthful.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Not entirely, but it's always worth it to plan. The more you do it, the less you need to worry about mistakes happening.

[ She gives him a box of Milk Duds with a refill of his coke. ]
